Cassettes Won't Listen is essentially a one man band: Jay Drake.
Bigwig at Def Jux by day and beatsmith by night. His original compositions have drawn comparisons to Notwist, Postal Service, and Beck. I'd like to think of him more as a musical futurist; melding all that is awesome from hip-hop, rock, and dance into an amazingly catchy, dancable sexy soup. Jay has famously remixed Morcheeba, The Diggs, Asobi Seksu, & Mr. Lif, as well as crafted an amazing cover of Pavement's Cut Your Hair. He is most certainly pushing the boundaries of modern indie music.
We are excited to open up Pistolwhipped with such a forward thinking, genre bending artist that sums up our musical ethos here at Slap You in Public.
You can catch a CWL show this weekend at Union Hall with the SoftLighties (also playing the Modular Monthly on Friday).
Hop on over the the Cassettes Won't Listen site for a streaming radio player of CWL originals and remixes.
Dope Lotus Records has a few MP3s for your downloading pleasure.
