Gorillaz have announced a 5 day run of shows at the famed Apollo Theater waaaaay above 14th Street.
Confirmed for April 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 at Harlem's famed Apollo Theater, DEMON DAYS LIVE will feature the guest musicians from GORILLAZ' worldwide multi-million-seller Demon Days recreating "Feel Good Inc.," "DARE" and the album's other classics live onstage.
The previous UK staging of DEMON DAYS LIVE, which took place November 1st through 5th at the Manchester Opera House, sold out instantly and moved SPIN magazine to comment "the group is reinventing the way that artists stage concerts."
Confirmed guest performers joining Demon Days producer/Gorillaz collaborator Damon Albarn in bringing each and every track to life will include De La Soul, Ike Turner, Bootie Brown of the Pharcyde, Neneh Cherry, Happy Mondays' Shaun Ryder, UK rapper Roots Manuva, with others to be announced.
Tickets for DEMON DAYS LIVE will go on sale Friday March 10 at 11 a.m. EST through Ticketmaster.
Also, Nick Sylvester's life is crashing down. I'm not sure that anyone else cares, but I despise this dude. This news made my day.
1. Go get (find) Hot Chip's latest album The Warning. Next Saturday, Hot Chip rolls into town with the Presets and Grand National.
2. Not much to report for this weekend. Hoboken has its annual St. Patty's Day Fratasm Saturday during the day. Saturday night the Mooney Suzuki plays at Tiswas at the Annex (If you mention Shaw Promotion at the door, its $5). Other than that, go to a new bar.
Well Gorillaz tickets sold out in a matter of minutes...I only got two for Monday night.
I don't know about you, but I'm trying to get out of work and enjoy this warm weather before winter comes back.
To go with this warm weather, the delightfully twee (see: Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura) UK band The Boy Least Likely To plays R&R tonight. I'll be there. I'm guessing they'll go on around 11 pm. I wish they were playing outside...
Tomorrow during the day, check out the piers for the internationally renowned art fair The Armory show. Hundreds of galleries from around the world present the best in contemporary
art...Everything on sale is by living artists.
To complement your new art, stop by the Architectural Digest Home Design Show and furnish your mod apartment with mod trinkets.
Saturday night is a full night of sleazy electro symphonic beats. Get to the Bowery Ballroom by 9 for the Presets, Grand National, and HOT MOTHERFUCKING CHIP.
So for some reason I didn't take my camera out this weekend...not sure what happened. But the Boy Least Likely To was the highlight of my weekend. Fun fun fun. My feelings echo those expressed by the Loveable Yeti. Go there for pics and a review. I missed both the Presets and Hot Chip on Saturday...saw Grand National. Eh live.
SUPERPHANTASTISCH NEWS!
Glaswegians (rad word), Franz Ferdinand will be performing at 6:30 pm on Monday March 20th at 11 Penn Plaza (celebrating the new Fuse Building Facelift). I work in that building, so I'll be drinking Cristal with the boys pre-show in my cube.
(Thanks PSNYC)
I'm obsessed with ¡Forward Russia!. You've probably seen me wear my ¡Forward Russia! tee shirt, or better yet, heard me rant about how much I love them. They are in the USofA right now doing a mini-tour (sans NYC). Loud, noisey, and oozing musical urgency. Very awesome. I've heard on good authority that they will be here in April/May. So...I'm giving you plenty of time to thoroughly get behind the movement.

¡Forward Russia! - Fourteen
I present the best of non-St. Patricks Day NYC. Mind you, this is not easy as most of our party-throwing/rocking-out breathren are in Austin for SXSW.
If you want to feel good and left out. Listen to what you're missing here and here. On the other hand, all of those bands are coming here next week...

I will spend the rest of my weekend packing for the WMC in Miami next weekend and trying to figure out how to Podcast here so I can put up some mixes.
New thing: I'll end every post with a good track to download.
(It's Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse)

As part of the promotion hype for his new album "3121," due to be resleased today, Prince (who has been renting Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer's L.A. mansion), painted purple striping on the exterior walls, his weird symbol, and a gigantic "3121." As The Smoking Gun reports, there were also some interior modifications made: "a purple monogrammed carpet was installed in the master bedroom and plumbing and piping was added in the downstairs bedroom for water transfer for beauty salon chairs." Apparently, there's also going to be a release party thrown at the mansion for those who discover a purple ticket in their CD cases.
Fantastic.
I'm in the middle of 2 weeks of traveling...Sorry for the lack of updates. A full Miami WMC recap will come this weekend.
Quick highlights: David Guetta's Fuck Me I'm Famous party, Hot Chip & The Juan Maclean live on the beach, Hot Chip live at the Pawn Shop, Tim Sweeney dropping Underworld's Rez at 3 Am at the Pawn Shop, Uffie live, Justice, Booka Shade live, Josh Wink & Carl Cox at the Ultra Music Festival, & the sexiest party of them all: Ovum's 10th Anniversary Party @ Glass.
A few nuggets for the Philly Massive:

Go see Carl Cox at Fluid on Wednesday night. This guy packed a 5000+ person tent at Ultra and he's playing for you in a tiny 150 capacity club!
